The Bronx Cocktail

A little old school citrus glamour, the Bronx Cocktail.

Like all good cocktails, The Bronx came about from a challenge. In this case, from a lunchtime customer propping up the bar at the Waldorf-Astoria. Spanish-American War vet and master bartender Jonnie Solan slung it together and it was an instant hit.

This recipe, adapted from The 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book, is essentially a martini, with orange juice. Its a punchy little number that, if the Bloody Mary and Bucks Fizz aren't quite cutting it, can cure all manner of hangovers.

You will need

Method

  1. Shake the gin, dry vermouth, sweet vermouth and orange juice in a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Strain the contents of the shaker into a chilled martini glass.
  3. Garnish with the orange slice and serve.
